Alfred Washington Reid was born on March 23,1944, to Adam and Rosa Reid. Alfred was the seventh of thirteen children. He was educated in the Fulton County School system. Growing up in Palmetto, Alfred joined Mt. Pleasant A.M.E. church at an early age. He later moved to East Point and joined Grant Chapel A.M.E. church under the pastorage of Elder H. E. Terrell. He was employed with Ledbetter Construction and later united with his brothers at Reid Construction Company as a skilled brick mason. Alfred continued the craft of a brick mason until his health began to fail. Alfred was united in Holy Wedlock to Annie Ruth Domineck and to this union 2 children was born. He was later united in matrimony to Mariea Moses on June 13, 2000.
Preceeding him in death was his first born daughter, Susan Tina; his parents, Adam and Rosa Reid; two sisters, Dorothy Reid and Helen Ware; four brothers, James, John Adam, Leonard and Samuel Reid and one grandchild.
He leaves to cherish his memory: wife Mariea Moses Reid; ten children, Angelita Robinson, Racquel Hill (Michael), Kenya Reid, Alfred Reid Jr., Richard Sloan, Deborah Sinkfield, Sherry Flemister, Edward Childs, Ivor Cook and Thilenuis Cook (Dedra); 28 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; three brothers, Charles Reid, Curtis Reid (Sarah), and Michael Reid; three sisters, Eunice Tole (Roosevelt), Sherri Ray (Danny), and Cheryl Reese; the Reid family of Cleveland, Ohio and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. A special thanks to the staff of Fairburn Health Care Center and Amedisys Hospice of Newnan for caring and being there.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 8, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Holly Hill Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park. The service will be officiated by Elder W.R. Stark, along with speaker Elder James Reid.
