Charles Dillard Toney III

January 4, 1942 ~ September 22, 2018 (age 76)

Charles Dillard Toney III, age 76, of The Woodlands, Texas, (born and raised in Atlanta) passed away on September 22, 2018 at home.  He was born on January 4, 1942, in Atlanta to Charles Dillard Toney Jr. and Annie Laura (Phillips) Toney.  He attended Capital View Elementary, Sylvan Hills High School, and the Georgia Institute of Technology, from which he obtained a degree in Engineering Mechanics.  During college, he worked part-time for Eastern Airlines.  After graduation he worked for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Florida, designing and testing jet engines.  He later returned to Atlanta to attend school at Emory University and obtained a masters degree in Marketing.  He eventually became the international marketing manager for Fleetguard, a division of Cummins, Inc., in Dallas, TX.  During his tenure at Fleetguard, he lived in England for several years and traveled the world attending to Fleetguard business.  At the time of his death, he lived in The Woodlands, a suburb of Houston TX.  Throughout his life, Charles stayed loyal to his Sylvan Hills High classmates.  He gave much attention in his spare time to keeping his classmates in touch with each other, and he corresponded with them through all the years after graduation.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by:  his brother, Philip M. Toney; sister, Nancy T. Upshaw; niece, Mellissa T. Love; nephew, Craig P. Toney; and several cousins, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 29, 2019, at Fairburn City Cemetery.  His ashes will be interred in the Toney family plot. Friends and family are invited to attend and to join the family for lunch at a nearby restaurant to continue sharing memories of Charles.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
